UNDERSTANDING THE TIMES
We read about King David and his army in the Old Testament days. I Chronicles 12:32 speaks of the sons of Issachar “who had understanding of the times to know what to do”.
Indeed we live in challenging times that witness to the reality of the second coming of Jesus.
The signs are all around us: ever increasing worldliness with appetites for sensual pleasures, pride in position and power, selfishness, and rebellion against God and His people. The Bible clearly gives us the picture of these modern day events. God always has understanding for us if we will search His Word.
Jesus said, “In the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” One of the great hymns of the church begins with these comforting words: “What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!” He knows our needs and concerns!
God is a God of grace and purpose
God needs us especially at this time
God has gifted us for specific purposes
God has given us a limited time on earth to fulfill those purposes
God provides all we need to carry out His will
God has rewards for those who are faithful
God never leaves us or forsakes us.
So today with its many concerns, challenges, and overwhelming needs, we, like the sons of Issachar, can know what to do in these crucial times. Jesus tells us, “You didn’t choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to bear fruit” (John 15:16). He also said, “I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is still day, for the night is coming when no one can work.” (John 9:4) By His grace, we are here with God-given abilities, desire, and determination – all for His glory.
Reading the signs of the times and knowing the night is coming, let us work the works of Him who sent us with renewed faith, increased strength, and great courage putting off discouragement. Jesus said, “Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in Me.” (John 14:1)
“Listen, my beloved brethren, has not God chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs to the Kingdom which He has promised to those who love Him?" (James 2:5)
HE IS COMING SOON!
